About Solertia

The Solertia Institute, founded in 2001, is an independent international non-profit organization with a global scope. Our mission is to help promote and accelerate broad-based sustainable advancement of socially and economically marginalized communities and countries through appropriate innovative concepts and initiatives.

Solertia carries out or guides the identification, adaptation, creation, application, and dissemination of relevant development strategies, programs and services.

The Solertia Organization

Solertia's principles and programs are rooted in the combined knowledge, experience and ideas of its founders-directors:

John (Zac) Zachariassen has decades of first hand experience with development processes in many diverse cultures throughout the world. He conceived, developed and implemented a number of widely acknowledged and used technological, social, educational and informational innovations, and has carried out assignments in more than 30 countries for governments, United Nations organizations, non-governmental organizations including federations of industries and trade unions, as well as for communities.

Rayan Zachariassen was the systems architect for the original Canadian Internet Network (CAnet). He developed the basis for several of the largest e-mail systems in the world and founded and developed pioneering Internet technology corporations including UUNET Canada.

The founders-directors believe that accelerating socio-economic development requires new thinking and synergies, specifically within and between their areas of expertise.

Knowledgeable and experienced development staff and volunteers in Toronto, Canada; Oaxaca City and the Mixteca Region, Mexico; and in the USA also support Solertia's work.

SOLERTIA n. Latin (syn.: wisdom, clear-sightedness, sagacity) clear vision of the situation at hand, determining a goal and foreseeing the consequences of an action; considering the special circumstances involved, and overcoming the temptation of injustice, indifference, or excess.
